The ICE Investigates Marriage Fraud: Operation Knot So Fast: Green Card Or 5 Years In Prison?

The Immigration authorities continue to fight marriage fraud. Recently they announced new criminal convictions based on the charge of marriage fraud for immigration purposes. The accused were provided with a jury trial, and juries found three of the accused guilty.
Judging by the last names, at least two of the defendants come from the countries of the former USSR. The penalty that the defendants are facing is five years in prison.
Is it really worth it? Despite that the US economy is in crisis and that the US does not provide free healthcare and/or education, many immigrants, nevertheless put their lives at stake to obtain the precious green card. Apparently, the Immigration process is not just costly in terms of money, the price that some people pay for it is incomparable to any benefits they hope to gain or retain.
